We conduct rigorous academic research on business failure and the reasons behind it. Because it is difficult to find people willing to talk about failure in an open and honest way, there isn’t enough information on the topic to drive decisions related to economic development.

Globally, new businesses are more likely to fail than they are to succeed. An average of 75% of companies shut down during their first two years of life. In other words, most companies fail, but we’re not learning from these failures in a systematic way.

With the support of EGADE Business School and the Monterrey Tec Entrepreneurship Institute, we undertook academic research into the most common reasons why businesses fail in Mexico. We published these findings in The Failure Book, along with a collection of the best failure stories told at Fuckup Nights.

The Failure Book / FuckUp Book was released during the second anniversary celebration of Fuckup Nights, with 1,500 people in attendance. The book, with an initial print run of 1,000 copies, sold out within a month, and more than 3,000 people downloaded the digital version during the first two weeks it was available.
